Walnuts are the only nut that contains large amounts of alpha-linolenic acid. This type of acid is one of the major types of omega-3 fatty acids. Those are the good for you fatty acids, which are critical for brain function and normal development. These types of fatty acids are essential, however, cannot be produced by the body so getting your dose of them through diet is important. And don’t forget, walnuts are naturally gluten free.

Studies show that people who regularly incorporate nuts into their diets maintain their weight loss better than those who do not. Studies also show eating walnuts on a regular basis helps to lower bad cholesterol, raises good cholesterol and can lower the risk for heart disease (the #1 reason for untimely deaths in America). In addition, animal studies show walnuts are associated with slowing breast cancer growth.
