Natural Medicines & Remedies: Olive Oil

We all know that diets rich in “good fats” (mono saturated & Omega 3 and 6) are good for our health. Olive Oil is a great example. Not only is it one of only two oils that I cook with (the other is raw, cold pressed coconut oil) it is a go to remedy for chapped lips that I learned from my grandmother.

On cold winter days chapped lips are a problem. But I am not a big fan of chapstick since it makes my lips feel like they have a waxy layer on them. Instead try the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, moisturizing powers of olive oil. Put a small amount on your finger and rub on lips until it is absorbed. (You do not need a lot.)

Use it 2 or 3 times a day to soothe, soften, and lubricate dry chapped lips naturally. You will feel the effects right away, but if your lips are chapped or wind burned it will take a few days of using it to heal your lips completely.

Olive oil soothes the sensitive skin on the lips and has potential to heal other parts of the skin. According to Expert Laurie Steelsmith, N.D., scientists have completed testing that shows putting extra virgin olive oil on the the skin after sun exposure may help to prevent skin cancers.

Olive Oil: It is natural and Chemical free and helps moisturize and protect lips.
